The Philippines and Canada are set to sign a Status of Visiting Forces Agreement (SOVFA) on November 2, the Department of National Defense (DND) announced Wednesday.
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. will sign on behalf of the Philippines, while Canadian Defense Minister David McGuinty will represent Canada. Following the signing, the agreement will then be submitted for Presidential ratification.
A joint press conference featuring both defense officials is scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Makati City, following their bilateral meeting and the SOVFA signing.
Negotiations for the agreement were formally launched on January 16 and successfully concluded on March 7.
The Philippines currently maintain similar defense agreements with the United States, Australia, and Japan.
