The Philippines and Austria have agreed to strengthen bilateral labor cooperation to open more employment opportunities for Filipino workers.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac met with Austrian Minister Wolfgang Harttsmanndorfer of the Ministry of Economy, Energy, and Tourism during a recent visit to discuss ways to expand labor ties between the two countries.
Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to enhance cooperation under the 2023 twin bilateral agreements on the recruitment of professional and skilled workers, including nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Harttsmanndorfer expressed Austria’s interest in hiring more Filipino workers beyond the healthcare sector, particularly in caregiving, tourism, and hospitality. He said Austria is ready to work closely with the DMW on a special hiring arrangement that ensures ethical recruitment and worker protection.
Cacdac welcomed the initiative, saying Austria’s interest in hiring more Filipinos reflects the country’s trust and high regard for the Filipino workforce.
According to the DMW, there are currently around 8,000 Filipino migrant workers based in Austria, with more than 700 new deployments recorded over the past two years.
