The Department of Tourism (DOT) hailed a new milestone in Philippine culinary tourism as Helm, led by Filipino-British Chef Josh Boutwood, became the first restaurant in the country to receive two Michelin stars.
The recognition was announced during the Michelin Guide Manila and Environs & Cebu 2026 awards ceremony on October 30 at the Manila Marriott Hotel.
Located at Ayala Triangle in Makati City, Helm earned praise for its modern approach to fine dining, featuring an eight-course tasting menu inspired by seasonality, memory, and storytelling.
The Michelin Guide described the restaurant as “a modern restaurant blending creativity with precision,” commending its bold flavors, refined presentations, and open-kitchen experience that connects diners to the culinary process.
In the Michelin Guide system, two stars signify “excellent cooking, worth a detour,” a distinction reserved for the world’s most exceptional dining experiences.
Aside from Helm, eight other Philippine restaurants received one Michelin star in the inaugural Michelin Guide selection for the Philippines. These include Asador Alfonso (Cavite), Celera (Makati), Gallery by Chele (Taguig), Hapag (Makati), Inato (Makati), Kasa Palma (Makati), Linamnam (Parañaque), and Toyo Eatery (Makati).
The 2026 Michelin Guide Philippines edition features 108 local establishments, with several also receiving special awards.
Michelin Guide International Director Gwendal Poullennec lauded the country’s culinary diversity, saying the selection honors “a new generation of Filipino chefs and international chefs who have embraced the Philippines, drawing inspiration from local heritage, bold flavors, and heartfelt hospitality.”
“The warmth and genuine care of the Filipino people are woven into every experience, whether at casual eateries or fine dining establishments. It always leaves a lasting impression,” Poullennec said.
The DOT said Helm’s recognition underscores the Philippines’ growing prominence on the global culinary map and reflects the creativity and passion of Filipino chefs redefining the country’s gastronomy.
