The United States has donated an additional P13.8 million in aid to support 3,000 families impacted by severe flooding across Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan, and Pampanga, according to the U.S. Embassy in a statement on its website Friday, Aug. 8.
This brought the total US humanitarian support for disaster response efforts to the Philippines at P27.6 following the storms Wipha (locally, Crising), Co-may (locally, Emong), and the southwest monsoon (locally called habagat), which caused inundation throughout various regions in Luzon and Western Visayas in July.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will use the funds to distribute shelter-grade tarpaulins, shelter repair kits, and essential household supplies for rebuilding damaged or destroyed homes; and for the distribution of hygiene kits for those still in evacuation centers.
“Although flooding has subsided in most areas, thousands of families remaining in evacuation centers continue to face significant challenges,” U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Y. Robert Ewing said in a statement published by the US Embassy. “We are grateful to be working alongside our partners, including IOM, the World Food Programme (WFP), the Philippines’ Office of Civil Defense, and the DSWD, to help affected families recover and rebuild.”
