South Korea and Australia have announced separate humanitarian assistance packages to support the Philippines’ ongoing recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Typhoons Tino and Uwan.
In a statement, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Manila expressed its condolences to communities affected by the back-to-back typhoons, which left widespread damage across several regions.
The Korean Government said it will provide US$1 million (P59 million) in humanitarian aid through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to help accelerate relief operations.
“We hope this support will help speed up relief operations and contribute to bringing affected communities back to normal as soon as possible. Korea continues to stand by the Filipino people during this challenging time,” the embassy said in a statement.
Australia also announced it is ready to deliver A$3 million (P115.9 million) in humanitarian assistance, which will cover emergency shelter; water, sanitation and hygiene needs; health services; and food aid.
“Australia always stands ready to support the Philippines. We commend the Philippine Government on their quick and extensive response to multiple disasters impacting millions of Filipinos,” Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Marc Innes-Brown said.
The United States military earlier deployed assets to support the country’s relief operations.
