The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Korea Coast Guard have signed a memorandum of understanding to protect their maritime borders from being turned into drug-smuggling corridors.
PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez and KCG Commissioner General Kim Yong Jin signed the agreement on Nov. 25 at the Korea Coast Guard headquarters in Incheon, South Korea.
The pact calls for expanded intelligence sharing on trafficking methods, concealment techniques, criminal activity patterns and emerging narcotics.
Both agencies also pledged to strengthen joint efforts to detect and disrupt transnational smuggling operations.
“This shared commitment is more than a formal partnership on paper. It is a testament to the strength of international solidarity,” Nerez said during the signing. “In the global fight against illegal drugs, no nation stands alone.”
Officials said the agreement reflects a shared goal of keeping Philippine and South Korean waters secure and out of reach of drug networks.
