The Philippine National Police (PNP) is strengthening its collaboration with South Korea to accelerate modernization and enhance public safety nationwide.
Acting PNP Chief Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. welcomed Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Vice President Lee Yun-Young during a courtesy visit at Camp Crame on December 3.
KOICA is South Korea’s central agency for providing grant aid and technical assistance to developing countries.
The discussions focused on ongoing capacity-building programs, technology-driven initiatives, and potential new areas of cooperation to strengthen policing capabilities.
Key areas of collaboration between the two countries include protecting Korean nationals and other foreign communities in the Philippines, strengthening crime prevention coordination, and addressing transnational and cybercrime.
Nartatez emphasized that international partnerships are critical to building a professional, efficient, and citizen-centered police force.
“KOICA’s support enables us to develop personnel, adopt new technologies, and expand programs that enhance policing effectiveness and responsiveness,” he said.
The PNP chief also highlighted opportunities for police personnel to participate in exchange programs and specialized training in South Korea to further enhance the professionalism and operational capabilities of the force.
