Canada has provided $650,000 (approximately PHP 26 million) in humanitarian assistance to support emergency relief operations in the Philippines following recent natural disasters.
Secretary of State (International Development) Randeep Sarai said $350,000 (PHP 4.5 million) will be allocated to World Vision Canada to deliver relief items, emergency shelter, protection services, and water, sanitation, and hygiene assistance through the Canadian Humanitarian Assistance Fund.
Another $250,000 (PHP 10.3 million) will be provided to the Philippine Red Cross for its ongoing relief operations in Cebu.
The remaining $50,000 (PHP 2 million) will be provided through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives to support Angat Pinas Inc. in distributing dignity and hygiene kits and emergency shelter in Cebu.
Canada has also offered to deploy additional relief supplies from its regional emergency stockpiles if needed.
“The Philippines is especially vulnerable to natural disasters, and Canada stands with its people as they face the impacts of these recent disasters. This support will help provide some relief, and we will continue to explore additional ways to help as needed,” Sarai said.
