Hungary is set to open more employment opportunities for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), recognizing the professionalism and valuable contribution of Filipinos who have become an integral part of its workforce.
During his official visit to Budapest, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac expressed gratitude to the Hungarian government for its continued trust in Filipino workers through its Guest Worker Program.
Cacdac was welcomed by Minister Sándor Pintér and senior officials of Hungary’s Ministry of Interior, who commended the positive impact the of Filipinos workers on Hungarian society and industries.
Pintér noted that the number of Filipinos working in Hungary has reached 14,000 and continues to grow, driven by the country’s increasing demand for skilled and disciplined workers grows.
“We made a good decision because of the high quality of services that Filipinos provide and their proven record as law-abiding people,” Pintér said.
Beginning January 2026, only Armenia, Georgia, and the Philippines will qualify under Hungary’s guest worker program which reflects Hungary’s deep trust in Filipino labor, according to the DMW.
In a separate meeting with State Secretary Illes Boglarka of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Cacdac expressed the Philippines’ appreciation for Hungary’s confidence in Filipino workers.
He reaffirmed the DMW’s commitment to ensuring that Filipinos in Hungary continue to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and excellence.
“This partnership with Hungary not only provides meaningful jobs for our workers but also enhances the friendship between our two nations,” Cacdac said, emphasizing the Philippines’ intent to deepen bilateral labor relations.
Cacdac also inaugurated the new Philippine Labor Office in Budapest- the first overseas office established under the DMW since its creation in 2021.
Located near the Hungarian Parliament building, the new office underscores the Philippine government’s commitment to serving overseas Filipinos.
Cacdac said the new office will serve as a key hub for labor relations, welfare, and assistance services, ensuring the timely delivery of DMW programs to Filipino communities across Europe.
