The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Saturday welcomed the inaugural flight of Iraero Airlines from Russia to Kalibo.
The first flight from Irkutsk, Russia, arrived at Kalibo International Airport on October 25, carrying Russian tourists.
Starting October 28, Iraero Airlines will operate regular flights every Tuesday and Saturday between Kalibo and the Russian cities of Irkutsk and Khabarovsk.
CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario said the new route will boost tourism in Western Visayas and strengthen cultural and economic ties between the Philippines and Russia.
“CAAP is taking proactive steps to future-proof the country’s aviation sector by investing in modern airport infrastructure, sustainable air transport systems, and expanded international partnerships,” Del Rosario said.
The Authority expected that the direct flights will attract more Russian visitors to Boracay and nearby destinations.
