Palawan, famed for its clear waters, hidden lagoons, and towering limestone cliffs, has been named one of Frommer’s “Best Places to Go” in 2026, citing the island’s natural beauty and the communities that help protect it.
Often described as the Philippines’ crown jewel, Palawan is home to many of the country’s most iconic landmarks. Frommer’s highlighted the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site “where imposing limestone karts cliffs conceal dramatic caves you can explore via boat tours on an underground river.”
The global travel authority released its annual unranked list – chosen by Frommer’s editor and contributors – in October.
Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB)I, said recognitions like Frommer’s are reminders of the country’s deeper tourism story.

“When destinations like Palawan are celebrated, what the world is really seeing are the communities behind them – the stewards who protect every reef, forest, and shoreline,” she said. “That’s what makes the Philippines special. Every traveler contributes to something lasting.”
The TPB said Palawan’s is an invitation to experience how tourism, when guided by respect, can help places thrive. As global travelers return to the Philippines’ most storied island, they find that its beauty is not something to consume but to care for.
Other destinations in Frommer’s unranked list include Chicago in the United States, Oulu in Finland, Algarve in Portugal, Adelaide in Australia, Patagonia Azul in Argentina, Vienna in Austria, and Costa Navarino in Greece.
The Frommer’s recognition adds to Palawan’s growing list of international accolades, including Travel + Leisure’s ranking as “Asia’s Best Island” and TripAdvisor’s recognition of several of its beaches.
