The Philippine Embassy in Denmark held a culinary workshop that brought together members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations to promote Filipino cuisine and cultural exchange.
Chargé d’Affaires Anne Kristine Salvador said the event, titled “From Manila to Copenhagen: A Filipino Smørrebrød Workshop,” was held on Oct. 17, at the Embassy Hall in Copenhagen and highlighted the growing ties between the Philippines and Denmark through food and shared traditions.
“Each smørrebrød we assemble tells a story of connection, discovery, and the blending of traditions that bridge Manila and Copenhagen. By bringing together Danish tradition and Filipino heart, we honor the strong and growing partnership between our two nations,” Salvador said.
The workshop featured four Filipino dishes – bistek tagalog, lechon kawali, kinilaw na isda, and adobong tofu – paired with Denmark’s traditional rye bread to create Filipino-inspired open-faced sandwiches known as smørrebrød.
The event was led by Chef Ching Legaspi, a Filipino-Danish culinary professional with over 20 years of experience, who serves as head chef of Dan Ejendom Service and catering manager of Cateching Catering Services in Copenhagen.
Participants expressed appreciation to the Embassy for organizing the event, which also served as a venue for networking and cultural appreciation.
