The Philippines will open an embassy in Kazakhstan next year, marking its first diplomatic mission in Central Asia with , Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro announced.
In a report by the Philippine News Agency (PNA), Lazaro said the new embassy highlights the Philippines’ efforts to strengthen economic and political engagement with Central Asian countries, which she described as “critically important” partners in energy, trade, and critical minerals cooperation.
The Philippines and Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations on March 19, 1992. At present, the Philippine Embassy in Moscow exercises jurisdiction over Kazakhstan.
The establishment of the embassy is part of the Department of Foreign Affairs’ broader expansion plans.
The Philippines is also set to open new embassies in Suva, Fiji, this year and another in Ghana as it continues to widen its diplomatic presence in Africa and the South Pacific.
“We also seek new partnerships and have been aggressively expanding our diplomatic footprint,” Lazaro said. “These new embassies will help us open opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy and critical minerals.”
