United States President Donald Trump will meet Southeast Asian leaders this week as he attends regional summits hosted by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Malaysia.
Malaysia’s foreign affairs ministry said Trump will make an official visit to Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to 27 to take part in the 13th ASEAN–United States Summit and the 20th East Asia Summit, marking his first official visit to Southeast Asia since taking office in January 2025.
Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who serves as ASEAN Chair this year, are scheduled to hold a bilateral talks focused on strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, defense and security, and people-to-people exchanges under the Malaysia–United States Comprehensive Partnership.
“The visit is anticipated to further strengthen relations between Malaysia and the United States, paving the way for a new chapter toward even more strategic bilateral ties,” Malaysia’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
Following his engagements in Malaysia, Trump will travel to Japan and South Korea, where he is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
